Free Meals for ALL Students!!

Yes, that is correct!!  Starting on Friday, 9/11/2020, the Harrisburg Child Nutrition Department will be offering a free breakfast meal and a free lunch meal to ALL learners enrolled at the Harrisburg School District. On August 31st USDA announced that school districts could start offering free meals, under a couple of different programs, to all learners until 12/31/2020 or until the funding is depleted.

If your learner wishes to purchase an extra milk, extra entrée, or items from the student stores you will need to have money in their meal accounts for those items. If your learner brings a lunch from home and wants to purchase a milk you will need to have money in their meal account for that purchase.

It is important the families still continue to fill out the meal benefits applications for this school year if they have not already done so. When this free meal benefits expires on 12/31/2020 you will need to have that meal benefits application and approval on file if you want to continue to receive meal benefits that are approved from the application.

How to fill out an application

The Harrisburg School District utilizes an online free and reduced meal application. This can be found on the  Parent Portal under Application/Forms or you can click on the link below. If you do not have a parent portal account please contact Jean Hudson at 605-743-2567 ext. 3010. If you are having difficulties with the online application please contact Chris Beach.

Safe Snack Guide (updated 12/05/19)

The Child Nutrition Department utilizes a computerized point of sale system to track student meals and account balances. All students are issued an Identification Badge which is linked to their individual account. Students are required to present their Badge when they check out at the end of the meal line. Money can be deposited into a student’s individual account either by sending cash or check with the student to school or with a debit or credit card via the My School Bucks website. When a check is sent please indicated the student’s name(s) and dollar amount to be deposited, in the memo section on the check.  The Harrisburg School District strives to provide an efficient, low cost, food service program to its students and appreciates your contribution by maintaining a positive balance in your students’ accounts.

Please refer to the Student Handbook for the specific charging policy for your building. They can be found under each building’s tab on this website. Low account balance reminders can be set up on the  My School Bucks website.  You can also check your student’s account balance or activity via the My School Bucks website.

Breakfast $1.40 for all paid students.  $0.30 for reduced students.  $1.90 for adults.

Lunch   $2.75 for Elementary, $2.95 for Middle School and $3.05 for High School.  $0.40 for reduced students. $3.85 for adults.

Ala Carte  $0.40 for an extra milk and $1.40 for an extra entree. Prices for items at the student stores will be posted in the stores.
