The Harrisburg School District is proud to announce that Mr. Travis Lape, Director of Teaching and Learning, has been named the South Dakota ASCD Curriculum Leader of the Year.

Since joining the district in 2013, Mr. Lape has been a driving force in advancing high-quality teaching and learning. His leadership has strengthened instructional systems, expanded numerous educational programs, and led to measurable gains in student achievement. He is deeply committed to educating every child—ensuring each is supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

Mr. Lape has also made a lasting impact beyond the classroom. He developed and expanded Educators Rising into a thriving program that is shaping the future of the teaching profession across South Dakota and in the Harrisburg Community. His work has opened doors for students through expanded course and program offerings, career pathways, and partnerships with local industries and higher education institutions.
