SHOW CHOIR

SHOIR CHOIR - JON KLEMME

Those involved in the Harrisburg show choir program, Harrisburg Eclipse, have been hard at work since their season began in early August. Participating in the school’s show choir allows for students to build relationships and skills. Dancing the year away, the participants have remained busy learning songs, planning costumes, and perfecting choreography for this year’s theme: “There’s Something in the Water.” Alex Hefner, the show choir coach, informs that the theme was centered around the song “Come Sail Away,” and many students and participants are excited about where this theme will take them.

Noah Green, who is a senior at Harrisburg High School, exclaims, “I am very much enjoying these song selections! They carry great energy, and the group seems to be loving them just as much as I am.” On the other hand, there have also been several obstacles that the team has had to face this season. Coach Hefner explains how both social-distancing regulations and mask-wearing mandates have affected both their rehearsals and performances. Together, the team has persisted and overcome these obstacles in order to have a successful season. In all, the group has continued to remain positive; senior Elysia McElroy jokes, “On the bright side, however, the required masks mean our girls don't have to do makeup on the bottom halves of our faces!”

Thus far, the team has had two successful competitions at both Washington High School and Vermillion High School. Competing remains an important aspect of show choir and is a chance for the team to show what they have learned and worked so hard on. Katharine Bart, a sophomore participant, explains, “I’m looking forward to getting the chance to perform. Show choir is fun to do, but half of the fun comes from getting to perform for others. It's an amazing experience to share a show that your team and you have worked on for multiple months, so I am happy Covid hasn’t canceled all of our performance opportunities.” Despite many of the challenges they have had to face, the Harrisburg Eclipse Show Choir has worked tremendously hard this season toward reaching their goals. Come cheer on the Harrisburg show choir at their next competition on March 22 at Harrisburg High School.
